Rhea Howkins gave Kilworth the lead shortly before half-time before substitute Laura Heffernan stole the show after the interval, producing a devastating hat-trick to turn a competitive opening period into a one-sided second half.

Zara Castle also found the net as Kilworth combined attacking quality with defensive discipline to secure three points and a clean sheet in their first league outing of the 2026/27 campaign.

KILWORTH MAKE THEIR MARK

There was no sign of opening-day nerves from the hosts.

Starting in a 4-4-2 formation, Kilworth immediately looked to impose themselves on the contest, with Ellie-Mae Spring firing an early warning shot in the 11th minute before Sophie Brown went close shortly afterwards.

The hosts continued to ask questions of the Leicester defence, with Howkins proving a constant threat and Evi Hall also trying her luck as Kilworth searched for the breakthrough.

At the other end, Megan Cox was well protected by a disciplined defensive unit featuring Shakeela Admani, Heidi Bland and Holly Turland, with Bella Large providing further solidity from left-back.

Kilworth made their first changes on 35 minutes, with Ellie Holdsworth replacing Large and Zara Castle coming on for Hall.

And three minutes later, the breakthrough finally arrived.

Leicester were struggling to contain the pressure and Howkins produced a moment of real quality in the 38th minute, lifting a delightful right-footed lob over the goalkeeper following an excellent delivery from Sophie Brown.

HEFFERNAN CHANGES THE GAME

Leicester needed a response after the interval.

Instead, they found themselves facing an even more dangerous Kilworth side.

Georgia Stuart replaced Turland at right-back shortly after the restart before Laura Heffernan entered the action in the 48th minute.

Her arrival would prove decisive.

Moving into central midfield, Heffernan immediately injected energy and attacking intent into the Kilworth side.

Just four minutes after entering the pitch, she made her mark.

A defensive clearance fell to Heffernan on the edge of the area and she made no mistake, producing a composed finish to double Kilworth's advantage.

The hosts were now beginning to turn the screw.

CASTLE JOINS THE PARTY

On 61 minutes, Abbi Rowlands replaced the impressive Howkins up front.

And within a minute, Kilworth struck again.

Rowlands helped create the opening with a neat lay-off before Zara Castle stepped onto the ball and fired a right-footed finish from the edge of the box.

With Leicester struggling to find a way back into the contest, Heffernan took centre stage once again.

The midfielder struck for the second time in the 71st minute, with Ellie-Mae Spring providing the assist.

At 4-0, the result was beyond doubt.

But Heffernan wasn't finished.

The final blow arrived in the 78th minute.

Rowlands supplied the opportunity and Heffernan did the rest, completing a remarkable hat-trick from the bench.

While the attacking players deserved the headlines, Kilworth's defensive performance was equally impressive.

Megan Cox remained composed between the posts, making the saves required when called upon, while the defensive unit in front of her remained organised and disciplined throughout.

The late stages saw further changes as Kilworth managed the game and ensured valuable minutes for more of the squad.

Turland returned at right-back, Stuart moved into centre-back, Hall re-entered on the left, Large returned to the side and Howkins came back into the forward line.

Despite the changes, the intensity never dropped.
